DD is a junior, with very good GPA, challenging course work, very high ACT and SAT scores, and extracurricular activities at a very good school. But even with all that…chances of admission into an ivy or great school are probably 1 in 4. Does anyone have any recommendation for a coach to help with the essay? Is this recommended? Thanks for any thoughts.
So first you have to understand that chances for admission to a school in the top 20 is WAY less than 1 in 4. For essay help I’d recommend @Hanna
Yes you are right…1 in 4 is too optimistic…it is more like 1 in 10 or 1 in 20…
Actually, letters of recommendation may move the needle more than essays. AO’s know that many essays these days have been “polished” if not written by people other than the applicant. Now is not too early to start thinking about who would be the best LoR advocates for your D and arming them with facts/interests that will support a coherent narrative on “why D”.
dm me and I can provide contact info for some folks. One, in particular, is a Stanford alum and quite good at this.
