General Comments: Good luck to all!!

@raviolioli Ik i don’t know you, and it sounds weird, but i really want you to get into Barnard… haha

@actssmart I’ve felt that same strange sense of investment in other people’s college admissions before, even after just reading one post.

Ill prob check to see if my decision was uploaded after midnight, then head to bed.

Rolling admissions is so nerve-racking. I end up checking the website WAY too often.

@fallenchemist , do you think that Tulane accepts only a few applicants from each school? For example, I attend a very competitive school in NYC and a handful of students have applied to Tulane. Some consider it as a “safety”, well, honestly, more than some, several have better GPAs than mine. I think I have demonstrated interest , but, honestly, I’m beginning to get worried. My application is pretty strong aside from average gpa. I am grasping at early action straws at this point

@nycapp hang in there. i think TU looks past the GPA and I think you will be seeing an acceptance soon.

Absolutely not. Tulane is very specific about this and says it clearly when asked. Also, there are schools in certain areas where Tulane has long been popular such as suburban Chicago, my old high school in suburban St. Louis, many high schools in metro NYC and I am sure dozens in places like Miami, Houston, Dallas, and of course NOLA itself where Tulane accepts 20 or even more each year and has as many as 8-10 attend in a single year. There was a conversation on a thread here last year where an Illinois parent gave the Naviance stats from their school. Maybe you could find that, but in any case that will not be a factor for you.

For whatever it is worth, I’m a counselor and I support students with their applications and essays. Several of my students applied to Tulane. The notification dates and order notifications are received are completely random. There are kids at both ends of the spectrum (super high and more in line with the Tulane norm) who have have heard and who have not. There does not seem to be any connection to date submitted.

@slg333 Thanks for your information. D16 submitted her application in early October, but no news yet. She has high stats (eg, NMSF, rank 1st, 4.0, semifinalist for state scholarship, etc) and applied EA. She has seen a lot of students with a lot lower GPA being accepted within a few days!! She was planning on applying to Tulane’s scholarships that are due this Saturday. She has already started the essays, but these applications take a lot of time to finish and with finals approaching, she feels that it will be probably a waste of her time to apply since most likely she will get deferred. I try to encourage her to finish the application, but she checks her application every day and nothing changes! [-(

FWIW, at my S school, Tulane admits at least a dozen kids a year, and about half of them go. So they don’t try to control the # from a school!

@lonetreegrad That is my exact same scenario. Did she write the “Why Tulane” essay? I did not, and I think that is probably why I have not heard back yet.

@lonetreegrad my D also has not heard. Her stats aren’t as high as your D’s but definitely in range. 3.86uw, 4.08w and 32 ACT. She is applying for Paul Tulane scholarship, even though her stats are probably too low to receive it. But she’s hoping that by applying, it’s seen as showing interest.

If she gets accepted, she’ll apply for the community service scholarship which I think she’d have a better chance of receiving. Community service is one of her passions.

@SnapApp She did write the “Why Tulane” essay. She also attended their presentation and participated in their webinar. We haven’t had a chance to visit the school, because she spent most of the summer doing research in college.

@Calimom23 I asked D to complete her scholarship, but she is not very motivated at this point. She also has several scholarships for other colleges. These colleges have been very nice keeping in touch with her, so she feels that she prefers spending more time doing those scholarship apps, even though these colleges were lower on her list of college choices.

@lonetreegrad I have 2210 SAT, I’m a NMSF, attend a precollege conservatory music program, and swim year round. I applied in mid-october and have not heard back, even though some of my friends with lower test scores and GPAs have already gotten in. I don’t know what to expect… I’ve been checking Gibson daily and it’s making me very nervous

@kwirkkz Thanks for letting me know that D is not alone. I am sorry that you are going through the same thing as D. It is very frustrating. Good luck to you

I feel the same way. My ACT is lower but my GPA is way higher than tulane target. I have been watching kids in my school with lower all around stats get in who don’t have rigor and don’t have awards and EC’s I do. It’s so random and frustrating, AND I have a sibling at the school which should help AND I applied SCEA. Go figure

@kjenny50 Thanks. A hug to you and others in the same situation. I just wanted to add that I have seen kids that have gotten into highly selective schools, including Ivy leagues after being deferred from Tulane, so don’t take this personally. I try to tell D that daily that she still has a few great schools on her list that may look at her application differently. D has worked very hard in the last few years and I am extremely proud of her. You should all be proud of what you have accomplished. Again good luck to you all.
