Why Tulane: I really liked it! I was enthusiastic and detail-oriented/specific in it. I found one tiny typo where I repeated the word “and” twice- oops.
I didn’t see that there was an optional activities essay, but apparently there was?
Common App Essay was about my fear of public speaking and failure and how I’ve overcome it.
[]Teacher Recommendations: 10/10! Teachers at my school are really great at working with you and being specific. I had my Advanced Bio teacher and Spanish 3 teacher write mine.
[]Counselor Rec: 10/10! I have a close relationship with him (small school) and he is also my advisor.

[li]General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Everything happens for a reason.[/li][/ul]
My son was deferred. Time to write his counselor and do the Why Tulane essay.
Got a small white envelope. that cant be good.
@fallenchemist If I applied SCEA but was deferred, can I apply somewhere else Early Decision II?
DD checked today was deferred. Not unexpected, after reading through this thread and seeing the caliber of the competition! But disappointing, nonetheless, as it is her dream school. Her EC’s I think are competitive, but grades and test scores borderline for this school. At least the perception of being a safety is not an issue here. Definitely not a safety for her. Best of luck to all who were deferred – from what I can see, you are all pretty amazing, and will be an asset at whatever school you wind up attending.
@mstee, my daughter was in the same boat as yours, two years ago - borderline low (for Tulane) SAT and GPA but lots of great EC, especially volunteer type, which is Tulane’s sweet spot. She was deferred EA but ultimately was accepted regular admission. She ultimately ended up at another school but Tulane was a big contender until the end. So your daughter sounds like she has a good chance of getting in regular admission, so you should both stay very positive!
Yes, of course. Once you are deferred, the cycle has ended as far as obligations.
I was deferred yesterday around 12 PM to 1:30 PM. I was very disappointed to get the notification, but I am sure it was due to my lack of interest. I have a 3.86 UW/4.39W GPA and a 31 ACT (31 R 31 E 32 M 29 S). I applied for the PTA because I wanted to show more interest (although my stats are not high enough for the Tulane committee to think that I am using the school as a safety) and because I really liked the prompts they gave (the two essays were my favorite essays that I’ve written during this college process). I also wrote out the Why Tulane essay. It was about 500 words, and I personally liked it. I thought it was detailed, but I guess the committee could have thought it was too generic since I didn’t talk about specific classes or professors. I did spend a while researching the school, but I guess I didn’t go too in depth with it, though. I have emailed my counselor a few times, and I am planning on getting in touch with him again in a few days. Hope I can get in for RD, although I know I wouldn’t be able to attend without any merit. Anxious to see how these next months play out.
Congrats to everyone who has been admitted already! For those who were also deferred, It isn’t the end of the world. Many of you have extremely strong stats, so don’t take it too personally. Tulane is an amazing school, but being deferred does not make you bad students in any way. I am saying this because I see how being deferred affects many student’s attitudes and self-confidences. You are all very smart and intelligent, and a deferral isn’t a denial. Remember that (:

@Abwee67 my D was deferred as well. Her stats are almost the same as yours. She also did the PTA as a way to show interest. She also enjoyed the prompts and the one about the items in the smithsonian was her most creative. She also participated in 2 online chats and emailed with her counselor a few times. I really don’t see where she went wrong.
Good luck to you!
2300SAT 35ACT 4.0UW deferred ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Shoutout to the people who are still waiting for their decisions!!
FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT GET A DECISION BY TOMORROW MIDNIGHT:
Obviously something human or otherwise went wrong, and naturally you need to contact admissions ASAP starting on WEDNESDAY. Please be patient and keep your cool, these things happen. In the past Tulane has acted very quickly to rectify any mishandled files to get answers to the applicants. The most common error I have seen is that an applicant was labeled RD. Sometimes the applicants made the mistake themselves, other times it was Tulane’s error. Of course there are other things that could have gone wrong. Just work with them to get you an answer.
