ADMISSION DECISIONS FALL 2016 (CLASS OF 2020)

@marcymar @mstee
I am in the same boat as you both. I was deferred December 13th as well. I emailed the office of undergrad admissions sometime last week asking for another letter to be sent (sounds kind of silly asking for a deferral letter), and the next day they responded saying they would have one sent out.
I don’t know if their office closed for a short while after that and they were planning on resending the letter once the office officially opened for the new semester and then forgot, but I still have yet to receive the letter.

When does Tulane start releasing decisions for deferred EA and RD students? Is it rolling?

@marcymar

Technically not rolling in the sense that they don’t release decisions based on when you submitted them. But they do start letting people know again, I think usually in mid-February? Not really sure, but I think around then. Maybe sooner.

Is there a Tulane accepted students facebook group?

Yes. Contact Tulane admissions.

Got my acceptance letter today. Applied EA and didnt hear back December 15 because I didnt send them my test scores. Sent them my test scores January 1st.

has anyone heard back from any regional admissions officers after sending them an email of continued interest? it’s been a little over a month & no reply. I’m guessing they’re still settling into the spring term?

@dkshruteee same case here, been around three weeks.

Reflection
Strengths: gpa
Weaknesses: ECs, sat
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: my stats are about equal to tulane’s averages, was surprised by the scholarship!
Where else you are applying or have already applied: binghamton, cornell, BU, northeastern, lehigh, georgetown
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: definitely write the optional supplement!! good luck to all!

@dkshruteee I heard back from mine but I’m pretty sure it just depends on who your rep is

(This is my Son)

ACCEPTED and offered Presidential scholarship ($32,000/year) and Honors Program invitation. Got acceptance and scholarship offer really quickly after application. Has now applied for Paul Tulane scholarship and hasn’t heard

SAT I: superscored it was 2200, v. 790, m 680, w 730
ACT: n/a

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 5%
AP (place score in parenthesis): n/a, IB school
IB (place score in parenthesis): No tests taken yet, but full IB curriculum
Senior Year Course Load: IB Math Studies, IB Bio HL, IB Philosophy, IB Amer. History, IB English, Advanced Leadership

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Won two state-wide essay contests on unrelated subjects, Natl Merit Commended Scholar, National Champion Constitution Team,

Job/Work Experience: Worked for a law firm for 2 summers

Volunteer/Community service: 2 church related overseas trips to provide community service in Central America, teaches citizenship classes

Summer Activities: Yale Young Global Scholars, Stanford National Forensic Institute, overseas service trips, paid work

Essays: Personal statement was about rewriting his school constitution when he was class president and what he achieved / learned from it; his “why Tulane” essay was personal, good, and showed genuine interest in the school.

Teacher Recommendation: Haven’t seen them but believe he had two very strong recs from his Leadership/History teacher and his English teacher

Counselor Rec: Very strong–he was nominated for some scholarships at other schools and Counselor rec was required for that so probably had a lot of time put into it.

No additional rec or interview

Oregon, large public school

White male

Not eligible for financial aid or first generation

Hooks / strenghts: His application really told a cohesive, genuine story about interest in citizenship and leadership and a kid who has carried out those values in his life. I think his teachers probably underscored this strongly – good all around kid but with unusual leadership and intellectual capabilities. I’ll be curious to see how he does on the Paul Tulane scholarship. Those essays looked good.

Weaknesses: I tried to get him to take the SAT once more but he just wasn’t interested.

Why you think [son was] accepted: Good extracurriculars, strong transcript, good essays that distinguished him

Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/denied: This is the only one we’ve heard from thus far

It has been stunning to see how much work is involved in applying to college. Congrats to all the awesome kids who do it!

mine is rebecca greaves…should I email her again or just wait in case she replies soon? My friend who emailed her a few times (& got in) says she typically replies in a few days, even though it’s been over a month for me

@dkshruteee

I would say it is OK to resend your email.

State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Medium-sized public, magnet, IBDP (first in the district)

Income Bracket: low enough to qualify for FA
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none that I could think of. Maybe first gen US college student?

Reflection
Strengths: ACT, GPA, rigor of classes, essays
Weaknesses: lack of major awards
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: see strengths
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Tulane (RD), Princeton (deferred SCEA), Penn, Brown, Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Duke, Northwestern, Emory, Pitzer, Wesleyan, Reed, UCB/LA/SB/D, Cal Poly SLO, UVA (EA), UNC Chapel Hill (EA)
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Honestly after the crushing deferral from Princeton, I’ve been pretty down on myself. But hearing this great news from Tulane (and very early on, at that) made me realize there are other schools than just your typical “dream” school. I’m seriously going to consider Tulane because of how early they sent me this letter and the money they’re already offering (although I’ll apply for need-based FA too). During this entire process, I think you just gonna keep your options open, don’t be discouraged, and breathe. You made it this far. It’s time to trust that you worked hard enough.

I know I have not answered many of the questions, I just don’t want to post too much identifying information. Sorry :frowning: pm me for any questions

If you have been accepted, did you apply EA or RD?

My son was accepted regular decision, but he applied on an early schedule to make him eligible for a scholarship, I believe.

When did you receive your acceptance?

does anyone know when deferred students will begin to hear back?

@jmk1998 - You can check post 1202. @fallenchemist indicated that deferred students might expect to hear something by mid-February or perhaps sooner. Good luck to you!
