The FA will pretty much be what it will be, and other than merit aid it is out oft the he hands of admissions. I would just follow Jeff’s instructions and see what happens.
Rejected RD. But I got into my top choice, the University of Chicago!
Good luck to all the RD’s waiting on your decisions and congratulations to all admitted.
Congrats @omalette. I am very happy for you, that is such a cool school. While I know some that are disappointed say (and I am sure mean it) that Tulane is their top choice, quite a few others have said that they have gotten into other, even more admission competitive schools that they were hoping for even more than Tulane. So clearly it is impossible for admissions to read minds, but it does seem like they have a pretty good feel for this kind of thing.
Well this is bizarre, they turned down some high stats kids.
I’m in the same boat as a lot of people, would love to go if financial aid works out. I signed up for the waitlist, but seeing the stats of other waitlist members, I don’t like my chances.
That is not a reflection of your chances. If you read through a lot of CC, you would come to learn that schools like Tulane try to figure out which students are most likely completely set on attending an Ivy or similar school, and which ones are truly interested in Tulane. So the very highest stat students are sometimes accepted but often denied or wait listed. It’s tricky, as you might imagine. But a student with stats that are just very slightly less than a typical Harvard or Stanford admit probably has a better chance of admission at Tulane than those with near perfect stats.
@fallenchemist My Gibson says “Your Application Status is currently not available.” Did something go wrong?
Waitlist !!
very very very confused… 3.95 GPA UW, 4.52 W with 9 AP classes (5’s on ever test so far…) 33 ACT score, applied for scholarship, sent in extensive resume, published research and summer internships, thoughtful Why Tulane? essay. At my school, Tulane is a very popular “safety” school… I’m really confused honestly because people with my stats usually get some sort of scholarship but i got waitlisted
I guess i don’t know what I did wrong.
now time to decide between honors college at U mich or honors at Chapel hill i guess
Might just be an update or some other maintenance going on. Try again in the AM.
@fallenchemist Ok… Thanks!!!
@gracie21, I wouldn’t get too down on yourself, with choices such as honors at U.Mich and UNC. Perhaps the admissions committee sensed your conception of the school as a safety, and they admitted people with similar credentials for whom it seemed more of a first choice. Perhaps they had just too many people from your geographic area. Maybe this year they are going for a smaller class, following last year’s humongous class. One thing I can guarantee you: once you get settled in wherever you wind up and, especially, as you go through the rest of your career and life, where you did or did not get into college will be a non-factor in your life. Congratulations on the stellar high school career and best of luck!
My D was waitlisted after an EA deferral. She declined the waitlist. Tulane is a great school and she is not bitter at all. She has admissions she is already excited about and didn’t want to crowd a list for a spot she wouldn’t take anyway. The long wait allowed her to get excited about other options. However, I do wish they would make decisions a little quicker for those who apply EA.
^ I could have written the exact same post as @BearHouse, as it perfectly describes my daughter’s situation. Congratulations to all who were accepted and good luck to those who wait. I also just want to say thank you to @fallenchemist – you do a wonderful job with the Tulane threads.
Decision: Accepted!!! :-bd
SAT: 2150 (2200 Superscore)
SAT2: Math1: 740 Math2: 720
GPA: 3.9
10 AP Classes throughout high school
Extracurriculars: 2 year varsity soccer captain, 4 honor societies, Varsity lacrosse
200+ Community Service hours
Strengths: My “Why Tulane” essay was incredible in my opinion and my common app essay was very strong, community service is also very stressed at Tulane (one of the reasons I love the school) and I had quite a bit of those.
I’m SUPER excited I was anxiously awaiting my regular decision result… Tulane is my #1 over UCLA and UNC and I’m super excited to be attending next fall!!!
ROLL WAVE
^Did you just get accepted today or was this yesterday?
how does need for financial aid impact the decision making process for the committee. could one assume kids on the waitlist who can pay full freight have priority over those who need financial assistance?
Daughter was waitlisted. She will not accept a spot on the waitlist but will probably attend UW Madison or U Miami. Waiting on U Michigan but that’s unlikely at this point. Congratulations to all who were accepted!
Gee, what terrible choices, @luvsgelato
Congrats on those. What a contrast in weather!!
Waitlisted, too. 2260 SAT, 780 & 750 on Subject Tests, applied EA, wrote Why Tulane essay showing how it was a great fit, attended session when rep visited school, sent follow up email after being deferred. Was unable to visit (live far away, and was hoping to go during spring break). Super sad . . .
I never thought Tulane would reject people with such amazing stats. I mean I’m well aware that those are just a small part of the evaluations but still, so many people with better stats than me got rejected of waitlisted so I’m kind of surprised.
i was rejected from Tulane, and was surprised by how abrupt the note was. Did anyone else think it was a little rude?
