well, it seems as though I was. I honestly thought I’d get in, I had a very strong app I believe. but it wasn’t meant to be. unless…
I understand how deferred applicants can do things to ensure acceptance i.e repeated interest and calls, etc. to Rice. but I’ve heard also some places may reconsider your application even if you were rejected, if you ask, or something similar…
so is there a chance if I call Rice? as for a reconsideration? etc.? or are my ambitions for Rice over?

I am sorry you got this bad news…lick your wounds and then move to a new plan. Find a school that wants you as much as you want it.

I don’t think there’s much chance for reconsideration, but I would definitely call and find out why you were denied. It might help out with your other schools, possibly. And hey, maybe they thought you were overqualified!

“overqualified”----thats BS. now, rice is forced to reject qualified people. dont be disappointed. good luck with the other colleges.

pudding was only deferred. . . hang in there . . . show interest

if you call will they really tell you why you got rejecteD?

i highly doubt they will tell u…waste of time

Wrong serge. If you cannot be supportive and constructive, it might best to keep your thoughts to yourself.

served…

Idmom, you rock my world.

;-)

My d thinks I’m a bit of an embarrassment actually.

i was answering the question honestly…i dotn think they will tell u and dont suggest me anything.

serge - on what facts do you base your honest answer?

ricepudding - I can honestly say I have immediate knowledge of other competitive schools reversing denials, but I’m not sure about Rice. Sit down with your gc and talk about your application and admissions results. Perhaps he or she can advise you as to how to approach Rice. Even if your freshman application results are not reversed, you may gain valuable information as to how to create a competitive transfer application.

i agree with Idmom06.

idmom06:

Why do you feel the right to be direct and honest and yet attack ‘serge’ for being direct and honest.

I do not have the absolute answer for ‘ricepudding’, but I would tend to agree with ‘serge’ that moving on might be the best alternative. Could ‘pudding’ ask - sure the worst that could happen is a flat NO.

However, IMO ‘pudding’ would do well to heed ‘hazmat’ and find a place that wants ‘pudding’!

Attacking ‘serge’ does not give your positive advise to ‘pudding’ more weight, IMO it cause others to give weight to your D opinion.

Meganvirg- telling someone that to try to do something like reverse this sort of a life-changing decision is a “waste of time” is negative, pessimistic, and doesn’t do anything to support pudding. All they can do is say no; it’s not a waste of time to try. We’re here to encourage. I think ldmom was right on. Right on, ldmom!

Keep trying, pudding! We’re rooting for you.

i jsut have a problem with the mom attitude…they they know everything…im just trying to be honest…just move on man dont disinter what had has already past.

Meganvirg, i don’t think idmom was attacking anyone; if anything i believe she was standing up for ricepudding. When i read what serge said, i found it rather rude and pretentious… i think what Idmom was trying to say, as i am, is that being nice will always get you further than being rude, a lesson i had to learn the hard way. so, i hope no one’s feelings were hurt! Thus should be a constructive and uplifting forum! Come on–it’s rice, not harvard. haha.

not rude or pretentious at all…when the committe makes a decision it is not up for reconsideration. they are forced to make a decsion and have to deny qualified applicants so im sorry man…but just look at it as it wasnt meant to be.

If telling someone your opinion after that person has asked for your honest assessment of her/his problem is rated ‘rude or pretentious’ in the eyes of some on this post, then they are way off base.

Serge gave an honest and clear assessment. If some on this post feel that the only response they can make is to encourage an individual to continue down a path that has already given them a deferral or a denial, they are false advisors.

That an Admissions ofice might change as assessment is possible in the abstract. In the world of reality, a school like Rice with multiple applications and many high achievers applying and with a relatively low overall cost considering its quality of education is not shy of qualified applicants from which to select their students. When in February they send out notices of Deferral or denial, they are telling that individual, look elsewhere.

Telling the individual to make friends with admissions so a year later you might be able to transfer when transfer students are in very short supply at a Rice is to doom that individual IMO to another year of futile hope.

Far better to understand now that Rice is not in her/his future and move on to other schools that will be happy to have you as a student and where you will blossom.
