LOL, there is no exact procedure to get into anyone of them. Strong GPA, high SAT, great EC’s, glowing recommendations, and being a URM doesn’t hurt. Beyond those generic criterias, no one here can tell you the “infalliable” formula for admissions into those school.

To check the 50% SAT score go to www.collegeboard.com and use the “College Search” engine. To see the schools’ requirement for application, go to their respective website and click on admissions.

Perfect SAT score for MIT and Stanford? That would 2400, of course… isn’t that the definition of “perfect”?

I got into both this year, and I noticed something very interesting about these two schools.

It’s common knowledge that Stanford and MIT are competing for almost the same pool of students - and these schools also look for something that is different from what the high Ivies look at. I’ve noticed that High Ivies like HYP tend to notice stuff like high SATs, high scores, high GPA, high school record, high EC participation. However, at Stanford and MIT - you don’t have to have 2300+ SATs, you don’t have to go out and head 10 different organizations. What Stanford and MIT is really seeking out, in my opinion, is personal passion and ingenuity (I’m not implying that HYP isn’t looking for that, but I see Stanford and MIT really stressing for it). Without the numbers, one might not get into HYP. But if you don’t have really good numbers (you still need to have pretty decent ones) and are really passionate about something that you do, there is a good chance that Stanford or MIT would take you.

On the issue of contrast, however, I found the Stanford essay more challenging to write (the photograph essay) than the MIT one (write about your world). I also felt that Stanford really emphasizes their wide array of courses and their strengths in all of the different departments - while MIT tends to draw out their strong science base, but also emphasizing that students find many different ways to have fun and enjoy themselves.

As for SAT ranges, a good bet is 2200+. You’d be hard-pressed (not impossible, just harder, especially if you are white/asian male) if you only had 2000-2100. Aim for 700+ or at least 650+ (kind of risky) on all of your SAT IIs. Note especially that MIT only requires one science and one math - they won’t look at the others.

If you’ve seen the movie “The Perfect Score” you know that it doesn’t exist. Or, if it does, is just whatever you ended up getting.

thanx.
