admission requirements for grade 12 (senior year)

I am an international student currently studying in grade 11 in a private high school. I’ll be moving to Fl,USA this summer and will have to attend senior year in west orange high school. Even though I tried contacting the counselor through email and getting some information. I even went through the website, but it’s really hard to figure anything out sitting so far away.
Basically I just want to know the requirements I’ll have to fulfill or the documents or anything else I’ll have to bring from my hometown for getting into west orange high school for the senior year. The only thing I do know is that I’ll need minimum 17 credits.
but what about other stuff?
Oh n i have sent my grade 9 and 10 marksheets for credit evaluation but my grade 11 marksheet won’t be handed to me until after july. so just incase if my credits are a lil up and down, exactly how long are summer classes that you take for credits?
Last but not least. when does summer vacation end in public schools usually?

poetess,
This forum is for students transferring from one college to another, not between HSs.

There really isn’t a forum for your question, which needs to be answered by the HS you are transferring to. I am going to move your thread to the Parents forum to see if someone can help you there.

If you will be attending a public high school in the US, there are no “requirements”. You will be tested and evaluated, but most public high schools have kids at all levels.

At the customary time for the school district. It varies between early August and early September, in different parts of the US. You already mentioned the specific school you expect to attend. It has a website and it’s easy to find the 2011-2012 school calendar there. That should give you an idea of what to expect.

Here is the link to the school website: https://www.ocps.net/lc/west/hwo/Pages/default.aspx</a>
The school calendar is on the home page.

Here’s the curriculum guide: https://www.ocps.net/lc/west/hwo/guidance/Documents/WO%20curriculum%20guide%202011-12.pdf</a></p>

There aren’t “requirements.” You’ll be taking whatever classes come after the ones you are currently taking or whatever you test into.

“Basically I just want to know the requirements I’ll have to fulfill or the documents or anything else I’ll have to bring from my hometown for getting into west orange high school for the senior year.”

You need to bring official copies of all of your school records. If they are not in English, you will need to have them professionally translated.

You will also need to have copies of your vaccination records in order to enroll in school here. Be certain that your medical records are up to date, and have them translated if necessary.

alwaysleah- i know about the website and i did mention tht earlier! but most of the things in it won’t open or be like “be patient v r tryin to fix it” or sm other things…

happymomof1- finally what i actually wanted… thankyou so much… no, umm all my documents are in english except my birth certificate and stuff. but the educational n medical reports or documents are all in english …

entomom- yh i got tht later, sry :(

If you are moving there because one of your parents has a new job in the area, someone in that company should be able to help you track down the information that you need. Don’t be afraid to ask for help with this!

Good luck in your new life in Florida!

happymomof1- thats the worst part :frowning: my parents aren’t moving with me… i’ll be living with my aunt and u dnt wna knw the rest  anyways thanku  n can u help me wid one more thing, in my current highschool, i am mainly focused of my academics. but my I love writing poems, songs and very rarely stories as well. so i wish to go to a college which will provide creative writing and literature classes… anything specific i should focus on in senior year to impress my future?

Your aunt should be able to get this information for you, so ask her to help you out.

If you will not be 18 years old when you arrive, your aunt and your parents will need to set up some kind of legal guardianship so that your aunt can be your guardian until you do turn 18. She will also need that paperwork when you enroll at the school. If your aunt is already in the US, she should ask the school district what kind of documentation they need.

got it. thnx :)

If you plan on staying in the states for college make sure your aunt becomes your legal guardian…she should contact a lawyer if she needs help to obtain the correct legal documentation.

i do plan to go to clg in states bt i’ll be 18 before then! i’m sure that changes things, ryt?

When you finish high school, what will your legal status here be? If you aren’t a citizen, don’t have legal permanent residence (green card status), and don’t fall into one of the other special categories that qualify to apply for federally determined (FAFSA) financial aid, you will be an international applicant. Admissions is more difficult for international applicants, and financial aid is almost impossible for international applicants. You should talk with your parents and your aunt now about how they plan to pay for your education if you go to college here. You may need to return to your home country, or go to another country where it is less expensive to study.

LOL nah! i am a resident.i m just stayn wd my aunt cx my sis lives in a dorm and my aunt is not completely well … so its lyk v’ll help each other out… my father wantd me to finish hs here cx he wanted to keep an eye on me :stuck_out_tongue: but now he thinks i can do it on my own with my aunt if i need help or if she does

Your sister is there, and your aunt is there, so it looks like you are good to go. Since your sister is also in the US, ask her to help you with the things that your aunt can’t. Your sister’s advice will be very useful when you start applying to college.
