I’m a student going to Marymount College and looking to transfer for next year. I have a 2.98 overall gpa at the moment and am wondering my chances at getting in to UC Santa Cruz. Also since I am applying so close to the deadline does that hurt my chances? I know the sooner the better, but does it rule me out completely since i don’t have that decent of a gpa? I was also wondering if they read the essays and actually take them into consideration and how much that affects the acceptance process.

there’s no way UCs would care about the date you submitted. They just have too many applicants to care.
and yes, they do take essays into consideration and to a decent amount actually, contrary to what many believe

I too am applying to the uc schools and I am out-of-state. The minimum GPA for me to apply as an out-of-state student is 3.4. I make it. The lowest GPA you can have (if your in-state) is 3.01 so you are ineligible to apply. I am really sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

On another note do you recommend applying to Marymount? What’s the campus life like?

SeanWall: Where did you hear that the minimum GPA for transfers is a 3.4 for out of state and a 3.01 for in state? That would make TAG (for those campuses that use it) invalid since you need a minimum 3.0 to qualify to sign them. Perhaps you are thinking of a department specific GPA requirement?

Minimum GPA requirement for general UC eligibility is a 2.8 for out of state applicants and a 2.4 for in state applicants.

heatherw: Application submission date does not matter. If you wait until the last day, however, you risk having difficulty accessing the website due to too many applicants attempting to submit all at once.

hello!
well according to the admissions representative i talked with face to face for 25 minutes if you have a 2.9-3.0 for UCSC you should “Be fine” (inhis words.)
So I wouildn’t say you’re a shoe in, but I’d say you have ok chances, b/c the minimum for instate if a 2.4 but if you’re out of state the min is a 2.8.
