I moved states and did a hold back year for athletics. Would this affect my chances for admission into a top college?
I repeated my 9th grade year and am now a junior. I did my first 9th grade year mostly online because of moving states.
I then moved after an online first year and got held back at a private high school.
Short answer - no.
Good luck
Have you been held back one year or two?
Just one
I don’t see any problem here.
I do not know whether or not this would have any impact at all for a famous top ranked university such as Harvard or Stanford. However, admissions for them is very difficult in general and very difficult to predict (other than predicting failure for anyone who is not a very strong student). For any university outside of the top 10 or 20 I would be surprised if this made any difference at all.
Unless you are a very strong athlete, in which case if you are recruited for athletics it might help you.
I might add that if this made you a stronger student academically that also might help you.
And there are a huge number of very good universities.
Not a big deal. Tons of kids repeat 9th grade. In your case, if you switched schools, you won’t even report the 1st 9th grade. The colleges won’t even know.
Not an issue.
