I am getting ready to ask to be reconsidered to Penn state Main at first I picked journalism and was admitted but not to main campus should I ask to be reconsidered for a different major in communications to have a better chance of getting in or should i change my major completely or go undecided when doing this process? and has anyone done this process and how are my chances of getting in?
@stormdogcb3 , what are your stats? GPA weighted and unweighted and SAT and/or ACT scores?
The middle 50% of accepted students at UP (main campus) fall within the following range:
GPA - 3.55 to 3.97
SAT - 1250 to 1430

College of Comm isn’t typically overly competitive, although the AD/PR program is a bit tougher. Journalism sits outside of that major. Looking exclusively at GPA and test scores, do you fall below the midpoint stats listed above?
yes but I think my grades were good enough to get admission and maybe an easier major would get me in if I ask to be reconsidered.
Can I apply for main campus fall if I applied for early action summer?
You have very specific questions that can only be answered by an admissions rep. If you’ve decided that you don’t want to attend Penn State via Altoona, you have nothing to lose by calling. Have your questions ready, take a deep breath, compose yourself in a mature way and you may get positive results. Be prepared for any answer. Good luck!
Thanks, I’ll be calling tonight.
Journalism is not a very competitive major at Penn State. My guess is if you were denied from Journalism you will likely be denied main campus for DUS as well. Definitely call and see if they can reconsider you, especially if you are willing to start summer, but just keep that in mind. What are your stats that you believe should have been admitted?
@stormdogcb3 :any update?
