Admissions 2011 vs. 2012

For any CC’ers that were around for UC admissions last year: What differences have you noticed between last year’s process and outcome vs. this years? Did things seem more orderly than this year? I’m just curious because that’s the vibe I’m getting. Also, it may help out future applicants that stumble upon this thread, who knows. Please, share the events you witnessed/experienced last year!

lol Last year we went though the same thing, random notices, etc… I know it’s hard not to think about this 24/7, same thing happens every year. Try your best to relax and wait it out…

Oh, I’m waiting as patiently as possible. Don’t you worry! I was just interested to see what differences there were between the years, also thought maybe it could give future applicants an idea of what to expect.

I would say the process is pretty consistent. If you look at the dates the decisions have come out, it’s pretty much been in the same week as last year for the early batches. And then those of us that weren’t in the early batches were mostly informed in mid to late April, so the timeline is the same. I remember last year there was a lot of speculation about wait lists at a few of the UCs. There seemed to be a lot of inconsistent information coming from the admissions offices themselves. I think that had to do with the TAG situation though. Last year, I had called UCSD to ask specifically if there was going to be a wait list and I was reassured there wasn’t by several people and of course it ended up turning out that there was one for UCSD. I also remember getting my financial aid information earlier last year. Last year a few of the UCs had already sent out the financial aid letters in the mail for those that were in the first batches. For example, the financial aid letter I received from UCSC last year is dated March 15th, so they pretty much sent them out the first day they released acceptances. I didn’t apply to UCSC this year, but from what I’ve heard I think they pushed that back to the beginning of April this year. Overall the process seems to be the same. If anything TAG last year, with everyone being able to TAG to 8 UCs seemed to cause a few problems, but other than that I’d say not much has changed from last year to now.

I think if you were someone like me that blindheartedly applied anyways without appropriate research, you’d feel like it was more organized because you yourself are more organized as well.
