Admissions Advice for New Juniors

WOOT I’ma junior. Any advice for the class of 09?

go to state school.

Woot, I’m a senior, graduating in the class of 08.

First of all, though its good and wise to think ahead for all this college stuff, don’t let it stress you out and stop you from pursuing passions you have…Don’t try to impress colleges with that AP Bio, AP French, and AP Psyche transcript (which clearly show no defined interest…Just an extravagant and showy transcript…)

Passion! Pursue your passion and be dedicated!

09? You mean…08?

no if they’re a new junior… they just finished sophomore year so they’re in the class of 2009…

Concentrate on your academic classes, but don’t give up on extra-curricular activities you’re passionate about. Also, don’t think too much about college during the school year (that’s how I’m spending my summer before senior year, lol). If your high school career is on track, just stay the course and you’ll be in good shape.

Though you should really only apply to a school if you really like it and would go there if offered the opportunity, most top students are able to get the resources they need from any top institution, regardless if the school was their top choice. So, what I recommend for students is to apply ED (NOT SCEA, REA, OR EA), but ** ED**. Why? RD admissions is becoming tougher and tougher, and though it’s still very possible for top students to get in during the RD round, you can generally increase your chances by applying ED. ED shows schools that you love their school, and would go there if accepted (b/c of that nice little contract you sign). In my opinion, ED is the way to in the coming years.

Sophomore and junior years are the ones that you really want to do well in (as far as college admissions go). This way, you can let senior year hang loose a bit, since it usually doesn’t matter how well you do (so long as you don’t get below a C, or below a 3.0, or sometimes both).

BTW, as far as college selection goes, don’t fall in love with any one college, at least not until you are accepted ;)
