Admissions/Centre County Residents

Does PSU look more favorably on applicants who have Centre County addresses? We have 2 homes and we are wondering how using the Centre County address would help the application. If it is beneficial for admissions, does it have any influence on housing? Or does their guarantee of freshman housing also apply to local students?

To my understanding, freshmans living on campus is required.

Do they really REQUIRE that local residents reside on campus their Freshman year? How about admissions requirements? Do they accept a bit lower GPA/SATs, or will they send local residents off to a branch campus also?

from my understanding, the UP campus IS the branch campus for centre county kids. So it can be a lot easier for those kids to get in. But if they have a housing crunch, these are the first kids they turn to for gaining space in the dorms. I have heard that some of these kids do live at home - and in fact the Univ prefers it that way for some of them…especially if they are short on space…

Local students have the same housing options as everyone else, though when the yield went through the roof last year local students who had applied for housing were offered some dining credit if they were willing to give up their spot. (Only a handful of students took the offer.) There is no requirement that they live on campus, but I believe they are expected to live with a parent or guardian if they don’t live in campus housing.
