Admissions decisions before April 1st?

^Yes there is, but it doesn’t mean the deferred kids are next in line (as much as I too would like to hope that). It doesn’t even mean that they’ll admit more from the RD pool. The number they admit probably falls within a range that’s flexible enough to match their estimated yield rate.

Because I am feeling ridiculously cranky, I will be picking on some people in this thread. Apologies in advance.

Motion, you do not understand Kant’s theory/theories on morality. I don’t know what you’ve read or think you’ve read (note: wikipedia is usually not enough. Good start and little more) but if you want to be able to throw out terms like Kant’s Categorical Imperative, you actually have to know what it means. Suggest you find some books, and since it’s Kant you can go with his own works. They’re as clear as can be.

About EA, you mentioned how perhaps students wanted more time with essays, hoard up some more grades or win whatever competition they felt they had to win. Well, in that case you’re not qualified to apply EA. Schools talk about the self selective nature of their EA pool, how it’s usually much stronger than RD and that’s not total ********. The people who didn’t apply EA (apart from extraordinary circumstances or like being internationals who want aid) have no right to complain. As for the increased admit rate, well not only does applying early show at least a greater than average interest in Chicago it also means that the applicants are stronger according to basically every single metric that colleges use. Do those metrics give a complete picture of the applicants. Of course not! No point in even discussing it, really, but that’s what they use, that’s what they have used in the past and that’ almost definitely what they will use in the future.

I really don’t understand your problem with the admissions committee. So you had a representative come and give a horrible presentation (impressive objective evaluation). So they admitted a bunch more early applicants. Well, cry me a bloody river. I especially don’t understand your contempt for them. As someone (not sure who) pointed out, admissions plays a huge role in what makes Chicago Chicago by selecting the basic element of the college - students. For a a school like Chicago (hell, any school but particularly Chicago), students are fundamental in creating tone/feel/atmosphere. The students play as large a role as the faculty in making the university the hotbed of awesome that it is (don’t know about you but talking to current students is basically what made me apply) and the admissions committee picks those students. No matter what you think, they’ve managed to keep Chicago as awesome as ever (improve it even).

I have no idea why, but this entire discussion just bugs me (which is probably why I couldn;t help but respond). I agree that there’s no topic not worth debating (note: the opposite is not what has caused the decline of political discourse. jesus christ) but at least try and debate it well. Don’t resort to constant logical fallacies (yes, motion still talking about you) and focus on real arguments based on real analysis. And if someone catches you on a bad call (eg. saying that speculating about the reply date sharpens ability to analyze data and make predictions) just admit instead of trying to cover your ass and sliding even further(eg. coming up with a list of pointless “data” that can be "used’).

Anyway, I think that’s pretty much it. I have a feeling that some of this might be cruel but honestly motion, faux intellectuals make me cranky. And contrary to popular belief, Chicago is not filled with faux intellectuals, it is filled with intellectuals. Bah, forget intellectuals. Replace with "people who care about the life of mind, but not because of masturbatory tendencies.

Just so everybody knows, the Chicago website says that decisions will be posted tomorrow after 10 PM Central time.

what??? rose are you sure or are u ■■■■■■■■??

^Lol. That was my reaction. I couldn’t find any mention of it on the site, but didn’t look very much… I want decisions tomorrow! ^_^

Everyone, check your Chicago Account.

10pm March 19th. See you on the other side!

o yes that’s TRUE!!!

but 10 PM??? so late??? will they sleep that night?? I thought decisions will come out in the morning!

Almost had an heart attack when I saw that…Bless bless…

Well… i guess the waiting is almost over… I kinda liked not knowing better…

Congratulations, kids. Someone may have been reading what you wrote.

Admissions decisions for freshman regular decision and deferred early action applicants will be available through your Chicago Account after 10:00 p.m. Central Time on Friday, March 19, 2010.

Yay! Good luck to everyone!

I hate waiting so much
but when know the decision is going to release, i want to escape

10 PM Central Time? Isn’t that 11 PM Eastern Time?

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a decision scheduled for that late…but I’m not complaining! Kudos to Chicago for letting us know :)

Excitement!

I now wish I don’t know about the date. Please let us wait!!! I’ll have no guts to see the decision! Yes, kudos to Chicago and good luck to all!

OH NOES! I have my CS exam tomorrow :S I can’t study anynmore!!
Link to the official blurb please!!!
I’m DYING!

Yes, kudos to Chicago. I especially found the UChicagoPSAC post #41 informative. Their approach has probably cut the waiting time by a week over a plan to announce a specific release date in advance (which necessarily has to be padded).

Chicago, you’re On! Whatever the result, Hurray!!!
