Admissions Director Retiring

I’m sure most people saw this coming, but it’s still a little sad to realize that Pomona is losing such a great leader in the admissions department. Poch is one of those widely-quoted and apparently wise people who managed to increase Pomona’s admitted student profile while also staying true to an application process that goes beyond just the numbers.
And for this year’s applicants, it’s Poch who you can blame for not being able to get your admissions decision online ;). I read an interview with him last year in which he praised the ritual of waiting for the fat envelope - kind of sweet, but kind of hard when you’re the applicant and don’t know when the letter will really come!

Ah, but the suspense is part of the process! Also, he underlines every “warm congratulations” in acceptance letters by hand with his blue pen. It’s a loss for Pomona, but he’s done an awesome job for the College.

He will be missed. He’s one of the voices of sanity in the admissions world.

^^ I agree, and I have no problem with making these kids wait a little!

Do the decisions come by mail for International applicants too? That sounds a bit torturous. :p

I recall that international acceptances are sent by e-mail with airmail followup.

Sounds like a great time for Pomona to move ahead. He was certainly an attention grabber . . . that’s a good and bad thing.
