Admissions Incongruity (so numbers aren't all that matter?)

Hopefully this will relieve some juniors. I’ve noticed that there was a lot of inconsistency this year in who got in where (at least at my school).

Examples:
I was deferred ED then waitlisted at UVa, but got in Georgetown RD.
My friend was deferred EA then waitlisted at Gtown. She got in UVa RD.

Another friend and I were waitlisted at Middlebury. The friend was accepted to Princeton, Harvard, Duke, and Dartmouth, while another girl who was rejected from Georgetown, BC etc. got into Midd.

Anyone else notice this? Do you think this just happens with select schools like Gtown and Midd that are looking for a certain kind of student/take a more holistic approach?

Nope - this may surprise some people but college admissions (unlike grad school admissions) is not purely a numbers game. It really depends on what the school is looking for and whether they think that you would improve the school (and part of that includes interest and how much effort you put into your app - a student excited about attending a certain college will likely give much more back to it)

Ditto
It’s pretty much about the whole application package you send to the school. Just like we all prefer the fatter acceptence envelopes with T-shirts and all that in it.
