Admissions interview advice

D21 contacted the admissions officer at one of her top choice colleges. He responded pretty quickly and offered an interview in the next month or 2 when he’s in the area.
D is only a junior and hasn’t taken ACT or SAT yet. Would it make sense to interview now?

I don’t think it ever hurts to meet an AO in person to try to make a personal impression/connection.

My D had an early interview for one of her schools. IT was a good experience.

I tend to agree with that. We’ve visited the campus twice via open house and tour. Met admissions rep at area college fair. Can interviewing as junior without any test scores hurt?

My DS had an interview as a Junior and it turned out to be a great experience. The AO understood it was his first time so sort of coached our son through it. He even gave our DS feedback to help him w/ any other interviews.

Our son had already taken the SAT and ACT, but hadn’t yet sent those scores out.

The interviewer doesn’t need the scores. The main reason for scores is to have an idea of what schools are reasonable targets.

I would say in general don’t interview now…I am an alumni interviewer and one time i interviewed this kid and we were talking about his ECs…I remember thinking “wow, this kid doesn’t have any leadership compared to other applicants”…but it turned out he was a sophomore/beginning of Junior year and hadn’t had those opportunities for leadership.

If this is just an informational interview, so the Interviewer is just telling you about the school and answering questions it is fine, but if it is evaluative then I would wait until you have finished your junior year.
