Would anyone know if UMA has slightly lower admissions standards for potential fine arts students? For example, my D got off to a slow start in high school, then picked up in her junior year, and hopefully will continue to do well as a senior. By “well” I mean B’s. She’s not an A student. If judged soley by her GPA she would be a long shot. But with the upward trend, and a decent portfolio, it may be worth a shot.

Admission is becoming more competitive, I doubt they have lower standards for any particular field.

But there is no rigid “if your GPA is not at least this, don’t bother to apply” number, either. The average GPA for freshman is around 3.6, but remember that means half got less than that. And I would think for Fine Arts there would be more emphasis on portfolio than GPA, but I don’t know this for a fact.

I think you should encourage her to apply.

What are her test scores?
