Admissions standards for IVY Athletes class of 2026

Likely Letter was received before ED/REA/SCEA decision, but after applying.

Though it did get them into HYP. To bad there were 20 schools they would have been happier at. Recruits can end up not playing for a variety of reasons.

Who have you heard back from ? Lightweight rowing mom here waiting…

I don’t have a rower. I looked it up after learning about it from someone else and just kind of found it fascinating that they publish such specific information. Good luck to your child!

Really? A kid from our HS got into Brown (for football) with a 1190. This was right before Covid. Other athletes I know of personally have gotten in to Ivies with scores between 1200-1400 - that being said, they were nationally ranked for their sport.

My daughter T&F was told minimum SAT 1400 for Harvard and Princeton for class of 2025. Top 5 nationally in her events.

Obviously it depends on the year, the athlete etc.

Probably the biggest factor is the sport. Football and basketball are know to have lower thresholds.

I’m sure that it also depends on the number of events the athlete can contribute to and the possibility of points that can be scored overall. I know an athlete (T&F) that was recruited this year to an one of the schools you mentioned (also top nationally ranked athlete) with a score not close to 1400.

For the better programs, in general to receive admissions support, you would need to be able to score points at meets. Most of these athletes are ranked high nationally.

This happens but it’s dependent on the coach getting someone with a high SAT as well. It’s not so uncommon for ā€œokā€ athletes to get an offer if they have really high stats so the coach can offer the athlete they really want.

Would also be interested in getting some info wrt to rowing at top schools with strong rowing programs. Please feel free to dm me the info.

At my son’s school, three or four rowing kids were accepted to MIT this past year. Although not too close to the kids, I think they were pretty top-notch academically as well, including one mathelete girl.

There is very little academic wiggle room (if any) at MIT. A coach can push someone to the top of the yes pile but they have to get there themselves. Its commonly said that MIT coach support gives you 50/50 odds. Its very different from Ivy.

Son told 31 ACT for Stanford on one composite test, 3.85 gpa UW. For Ivies, ones that superscore encourage 34+, but 32/33 ACT acceptable with 3.9 gpa UW for those that don’t superscore. Probably need higher than those stats for more certainty for pre-reads / likely letters. Basically, same academic standard for mid-50 % stats listed on websites pre-covid when ACT / SAT was required.

Not necessarily. ā€œAcceptableā€ probably means ā€œit depends on the overall AI of the recruit class.ā€ If the coach has an athlete how is also an academic superstar, that gives a little wiggle room for the rest.

Note the target AI (GPA/test scores) may be different for different sports. This sport sounds high. The targets for my D and S for their sports were lower.

Can you share what they were?

This was a few years back, but the ACT and GPA targets mentioned to us were >3.8 and >30. There might have been room for impact athletes, but I think they were circling around a 210 AI as calculated then. D and S did not test the bottom, so the pre-reads were not an issue.
