The application asks for honors, prizes, academic distinctions. Does honors simply mean Latin honors from undergraduate education and Dean’s list honors? If no prizes have been awarded, can a scholarship or a grant be considered a prize? What exactly are academic disctinctions? Is this having a high GPA- should the GPA be mentioned? What else is considered an academic distinction?

I wouldn’t call a high GPA an academic distinction. The adcoms will see it anyways.

I listed such things as research grants and scholarships I’ve received, academic honor societies to which I belong (by invitation only), etc.

High GPA should not be listed (that’s on your transcript) and Latin honors…well, if you’ve already finished undergrad I suppose you could list them.

What they really mean is were you invited to any academic honor societies (like Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Lambda Delta, your field’s honor society)? Have you won any awards for your work? Are you published? Scholarships and grants can be counted as awards won.
