400 more students than last year register for admit weekend.

Why the surge of interest in Stanford? Will this affect the yield rate? Will it have an impact on the waitlist?

Excerpts from todays online Stanford Daily.

A record number of prospective freshmen have signed up to attend Admit Weekend, which starts Thursday, leaving coordinators in a scramble to ensure that there will be enough room hosts to accommodate next weekends 1,335 expected ProFros.

Coordinators have not made any changes to the weekends programming because of the surge in R.S.V.P.s.

I suspect it will only spell trouble for people hoping to get off the waitlist. In the past, when yield exceeded expectations, Stanford housed some students in University-owned apartments on campus for a while, which seems to have worked out okay.

Zenkoan, you beat me by a few minutes in posting the same thought. In regard to the waitlist, let’s see how things shake out. I don’t want to discourage those who are waiting. No one can foresee the future. Hopefully Stanford can get answers for those waiting as quickly as possible so they can make decisions.

Three years ago Admissions accepted a few more students than they probably should have. They seemed to have learned from that and it is doubtful the same mistake will be made again.

Got an email from my son last night (Thursday). He said the campus has already been “swarmed” by pro fros. Good weather. Should be a great weekend.

Maybe not locusts, but people who become obstacles in bike lanes, yes.

Kidding :P. But seriously, when you start biking here you realize how important it is for pedestrians to stay off bike paths (which are clearly marked with big bicycle logos). People have enough trouble biking as it is.
