Hey everyone I’ve been browsing CC lately and I just got back from Spring Insight today. I loved the campus and the school looked awesome. I’m really set on going there. However I’ve got a few questions about the school and college in general to help me pick an educated decision about where to commit before the 1st of May. Any insight is appreciated :)

Questions:

1) I didn’t get any grants or “free-money” from FAFSA. I qualified for a 5.5k Stafford loan and a 27k PLUS loan. However, my parents will not do the PLUS loan. They’re willing to co-sign for a private loan though. So here’s my question: Do lots of students go to UCSB on loans alone? I was admitted into the CE department and I’ve found that CE’s usually make a decent starting salary after graduating. So are the loans worth the time at UCSB? I plan to do work-study or an on-campus job while attending school too. Basically, should I take out the loans to go to UCSB if I’m really into the school?

2) How do the loans work? Do I get the money credited to a bank account or does the money go to all to the school? Sorry, I’m just really interested in going to UCSB and the only way I can do so is through loans.

3) Do any current engineers play any sports? I’m a roller-hockey fanatic and have been playing all my life. I hope to make the UCSB club team, but I just want to make sure it won’t conflict too badly with my CE major.

4) Lastly, what made you choose to go to UCSB?

Thanks for any help given from anyone.
