Son was admitted to General Engineering at Galveston. Does he still register for NSC at College Station? I’ve searched through this thread but didn’t find related info. Also anyone happen to know which dorm to choose or recommend that’s closer to engineering building(s) at TAMUG? Thank you so much!

No, have him click on next steps and he will see the Galveston NSC registration link. The Galveston campus is not big and all dorms are right next to each other and equidistant to all of the classroom buildings.

Galveston is its own campus-dorms, NSC, classes, orgs etc. The only ‘crossover’ with College Station will be a Sports Pass.
Search FB for Texas A&M Galveston Parents page.
Highly recommend taking a TAMUG official campus tour.

There are some other connection points with Galveston and CS because technically Galveston is the College of Marine Sciences and Maritime Studies as an Adjuct of College Station so it is considered part of College Station. For instance you get an Aggie Ring and in all ways are considered an Aggie, even how you sign up for classes and pay is on the same website.

That said it is definitely a different vibe and has different rules. All students live on campus. It’s 2500 students vs 75,000. The amount of student orgs is a fraction of CS. The largest class size is about 70 but most are in the 20’s. The campus is literally on an island (Pelican Island) across a drawbridge from Galveston so that makes it a little isolated and very safe (in the very rare instances there has been a criminal on the island they can literally just raise the drawbridge). It’s still just a 5 minute drive to the Strand though. So plenty of things to do but not necessarily college oriented things (going to the beach, fishing, all the activities of a beach town). Some of the faciliities and activities pale in comparison to CS though. The gym is small and not fancy. There is one main cafeteria and a few cafes. They have a fraction of the intramural sports and similar activities. No Greek life.

You also have the Maritime Academy at Galveston that is almost its own little campus within a campus similar to the Corps area at CS (but also different). Students and profs tend to be more laid back and you actually get to know a lot of folks there. Culturally there tends to be 3 types of students. First are the Maritime Academy folks (a little over 300) that wear uniforms and have a lot of activities that keep them a little isolated from the rest as there aren’t a ton of crossover classes with other students. A lot of those kids also tend to be OOS, especially from Louisiana. Then you have kids who are majoring in the Marine Sciences and plan to stay that way and tend to be really into the ocean and all the classes and facilities focused in that direction. Then you have the kids who are just going there for a year or so and planning to transfer to CS. Of the 3 groups they are the ones most likely to go to football games in CS and be involved and connected to Main Campus. The first 2 groups are really there to get a degree in their field and for some CS feels like a different world that they often don’t have much interest in (though some notable exceptions who are all in). Then you have the 3rd group that is mainly focused on making grades and moving. That’s actually why they can get the great footballl tickets, a lot of kids at Galveston don’t go to football games. The Maritime Academy especially has a TON of LSU fans.

For the right person though Galveston is awesome and honestly I think it is a much easier transition to college than CS for most (especially someone coming from a smaller school).

Has anyone received an e-mail with further details for applying for Biology Honors? The materials indicated that an e-mail would be sent out in February. When we attended Aggieland Saturday, it was shared it had not been sent out yet, but February is winding down now and our daughter keeps checking her e-mail to no avail. Thanks for any insights!

I know it’s not Biology, but last year my son emailed Business Honors to check since it was past the deadline for hearing back.

Has your daughter reached out to the person listed?

Yes, she finally reached out via the e-mail listed. No response yet

Dorm ROOM selection question:

My daughter will be in the Engineering LLC which means she’ll need to choose in Mosher or Aston. She would like to be prepared with 1st, 2nd, 3rd choices regarding room number (e.g. ideally not near noisy areas like the main entrance, stairs, kitchen).

How can she see what those room numbers would be? I understand that for security reasons, TAMU doesn’t want floor layouts published online, but is there a way to know any kind of number vs location info?

You don’t get to pick your room in the Engineering LLC. They assign your room. You do get to pick a roommate if you would like though.

Try not to get into the weeds of dorm selection. The dorms are sooooooo quiet in general, it’s crazy. No need to overthink this part IMO.

Need some clarity here, please. My son completed the scholarship questions on his initial application in Aug. He was admitted in Oct.

Today he got an email saying, “special invitation to apply for our Foundational Excellence Award scholarships.” Is this different than the scholarships he would have already applied for on the application?

My daughter was told last week on her campus visit that Engineering LLC students will not be assigned rooms this year. This was a change from what I had read online previous to the visit. So I guess it has changed for this year
unless she misunderstood. We’ll see, but in the meantime she’d like to understand more about how the floors are laid out, which is why I posted my question.
