I know Sweden has a great healthcare system that is heavily subsidized for Swedish citizens. My daughter has a Netherlands residency. Does this help us any on hospitalized fees in Sweden? She applied for Swedish residency but hasn’t heard anything yet. She was admitted last night with 104 fever, which she has had for 5 days. She has had other episodes of this 2 times with alot of muscular pain. I have no ideas as a mom except for some sort of insect bite. We are waiting to hear more. She is undergoing testing as we speak.
Hope they find the reason for the fever.
I have no idea about cost, but I would think a payment arrangement can be made hopefully.
Does she have any medical insurance coverage at all?
I hope your D is okay, my thoughts are with her.

Hopefully this will help.
It isn’t clear about emergency care, but it sounds like if your D was covered in the Netherlands by their health care system, there is a reciprocity agreement in place and if she is covered in the netherlands, she would pay the same thing as a Swede would (they have deductibles and out of pocket fees it seems).
I hope so! She is undergoing testing. She has to walk a quarter mile to get in the car! Probably didn’t help!
Does she have mono?
No idea yet.
I imagine they will waive any charges. They’re not used to charging people anyway and she has EU residency. Good luck!
My D3 had to go to the ER recently at school in Arizona and they didn’t even ask to see her health care info. They just took her phone number so they could call her about the tests.
@ Greenwitch
My son lives in AZ and was told by an urgent care to go to the ER. So he did when his symptoms worsened. He got. $3800 bill which his insurance refused to pay saying he should have gone to the urgent care.
Anyway…hope FM daughter is covered. And is on the mend.
It’s hard to be a mom when your DD is so far away. Is the b/f’s family helping her?

I should be so lucky, although she speaks fluent Swedish, and has a local address. She is sleeping peacefully with a morphine drip, and will continue tests…more as time passes.
Do small hospitals in Sweden has anything like our Intensive Care? Was just told daughter sleeping in a room near Nurse’s Station.
fauxmaven - is her fever down? That is awfully high for an adult for 5 straight days. Best wishes for not only her recovery, but figuring out what’s wrong!
She just called after 7 hour morphine drip- feeling a bit better. Still no idea what her problem is.
Why the morphine drip? Does morphine reduce fever? I thought it just reduced pain.
Hoping they get her on the mend.
I hope the costs are covered, but even if they are not, I hope they figure out what is wrong and your D feels better soon.
Morphine eases respiratory distress, in addition to pain.
Thank you @“great lakes mom”
Could this young lady have pneumonia?
I hope they get to the root of her problem ASAP.
Morpine also causes respiratory depression.
Why can’t you talk to her husband as to what is going on with your daughter or about their medical system related to your daughter? I imagine local people would have more information than people on CC.
