Hi,
I was recently admitted to Amherst as a transfer and I could not be more excited. I’m a 26 year old (M) nontraditional student who’s returning to finish my education, so I really am naive when it comes to this whole process.
First, I wanna know about Internships, research, etc?
I’ll be studying poli sci (IR focus) and I’m curious as to how easy it is to find research opportunities on campus? I will be attending grad school and having these kinds of experiences under your belt are essential, so will research be relatively easy to get involved in with the poli sci department? Is research in poli sci good and what’s it like?
What about internships? Will I be able to find anything over the summer that is paid? Can anyone elaborate on this?
Next, I wanna major in French as well. How’s the French major?
Is the French curriculum strong? Really wanting to advance in my linguistic skills. Do a lot of people take this/will I have plenty of people to speak with? Can anyone talk about the professors?
I want to study abroad, especially in a French speaking environment. Though most places I’ve research say you have to have 4 semesters of French. I’m going in as a second semester sophomore so would this be possible? Is there a way to bypass this? Would I have to go my sr. year and is that even normal? Are semesters abroad only in the fall?
Finally, I also really want to do the honors program with poli sci. But it says you need a certain gpa for 6 semesters. Since I’ll only be there for 5 I guess there’s no way to be apart of this?
I really appreciate the answers!
