The title tried to sum it up. I’m currently a junior in high school taking AP lang & comp, BC calc, AP music theory, college physics, along with 3 unweighted classes (us history, Spanish 4, and the gifted program class). I have a 4.00 uw GPA and 4.27 w GPA (as of end of sophomore year). My course load next year will be 6 AP classes and an uw elective.

My question is, will getting A’s in all these classes sort of make up for my not-so-great ACT score of 31? I am considering retaking it, and I will also be taking the SAT.

Would an ACT score of 31 shatter my chances at the more/most selective colleges? I’d say my ECs are slightly above average.

Thank you for your input.

If you think you should be able to get a better ACT score, retake it after some more preparation. You still have plenty of time. You have great GPA and course load already.

First 31 IS a great ACT score…you are in the top 2%. Also it is very common for the students best test score to come at the start of their Sr year, so plan on retaking if you want to improve.

Rigor is the most sought after factor for college admissions so yes, take as many rigorous courses as you can. Try to get a couple in each core subject.

Most selective admission isnt just about good grades and scores. All the applicants have them. You will need something else that distinguishes you to get an advantage.

You’re currently a Junior. Your ACT is in the top 3% of test takers. You’ll have a couple of more chances to improve it.
