Advanced vs. Honors and schedule question

My school has no honors classes, but they have "advanced" classes in English. Is this equivalent to an honors course, or is there some difference? It is my understanding that honors courses are whatever the teacher wants them to be.

Also, I have the option of taking AP Human Geography and regular English or advanced English and most likely an additional science class (non-AP). Which would look better to a college, since I am indifferent to the matter.

Bump because I would really like to know...

Yeah, that's what a lot of public schools call classes...from what I understand, "advanced" classes are sort of a step down from "honors". My old school called what most schools would consider a CP geometry class "advanced" because it was the highest level of difficulty offered to freshmen, so it was advanced in comparison to the other options. That might work differently in other schools, though, my current school only has honors classes.

And out of curiosity, why can't you take advanced English and AP Geography at the same time?

Scheduling problems.

Well in my school there's Advanced Alg 2, and then theres Advanced Alg 2 Honors. So in my school, it's different.
