Advanced Writing Books?

Hey guys,

Can you guys tell me where I can find free advanced writing guides online or in the format of books? I don’t want the basic stuff that the XYZ Writing workbooks or Sparknotes’ guides talk of. I don’t want to boast, but I consistently get above 750. The reason for this is that I usually miss 2 or 3 questions and when I reread them and look up their grammatical structure, I found I’ve never seen the grammar rule about the question.

Yes, while it is true that some of them are about idioms and that these can only be inculcated through assiduous practice, some of them are completely unfamiliar to me. Therefore, I’m looking for guides which give you grammatical rules which present itself in the level 4 or 5 questions not found in the basic guides. I’ve looked up some guides myself and they started using esoteric jargon, which at first, seemed absolutely nonsensical. Thus I was looking for a guide which presents itself in an accessible, user-friendly manner that I can complete before the upcoming May SAT. Thanks for the help guys.

lol interesting way of practicing vocab

I’m serious, it actually works.=) On a more serious note though, do you have any suggestions to my question?

Though it’s not a guide, I would suggest reading through the “Writing Questions” thread. If you’re consistently scoring 750+, I don’t think advanced guides would be that helpful.

The Writing Questions thread is a compilation of difficult questions. Reading through it and understanding the explanations for some of these difficult questions may improve your score.

There’s no point in getting an advanced writing guide.

If you simply miss 2 or 3, that would be enough to get an 800 (coupled w/ a 12 essay).

I’ve only used the simple grammar guides for SAT, and I got that 800 (missed one in error id, 11 essay). Instead work on the essay.

Okay, cool. Assume, I have 3 mistakes (raw rounded score of 45) with a 12 essay. Does this still result in an 800 because that’s my average right now?
