What are your thoughts on the advantages of a top-tier college, and then the advantages of a less prestigious college?

As always, it depends on the school. There are some excellent schools in the bottom half of the USNews & World Report top 100 rankings — but also some so-so schools. It may be scandalous to say, but I feel strongly that there are also some so-so schools in the top 50. It really depends on what you are looking for and what you need.
In terms of prestige, I think it’s sometimes better to compare the opportunities offered – some “less prestigious” schools offer amazing opportunities for undergraduate research, study abroad, and other programs that you can’t always find at the “prestige” schools. So, I’d say it really depends on the schools you’re comparing.
