Advantages of Taking the ACT?

I’m a rising senior in high school, and I’ve taken the SAT twice. I currently have a score of 1510 on the SAT. I know that’s pretty good, but I’m looking to get the highest scholarship level at University of Miami. Would it be good for me to take the ACT to increase my chances? What are the advantages of the ACT over the SAT? Disadvantages?

uhm. a 1510 is not really a UoM score…they want atleast a 1790.

I got a 1680 on my SATs, (the highest i’ve gotten out of two tries, 1600 (1st), 1650 (2nd)). I am taking the ACTs in september for the first time, the advantage i hear is that some people do better on the ACTs than the SATs because ACT more school like and logical while the SATs are reasoning and non-school like.

A friend of mine got a 1740 on his SATs and a 28 on his ACTs which translates to somewhere between a 1900-1950

^ He means out of 1600.

Thanks woeishe. Herozero1234, the 1510 is out of 1600. Out of 2400 I got a 2310, but Miami doesn’t care about the witing score.

Oh lol im sorry, didnt know that. You should have mentioned that lol

Haha, sorry. I had originally posted in the UMiami thread, so most people visiting that forum know that. I should’ve clarified for the other thread :P

There aren’t really any advantages or disadvantages to either in general unless you do better on one (you clearly did more than good enough on the SAT). Do you mean for UMiami specifically?

Unless you know that you’ll get a 35 or 36 on the ACT I wouldn’t bother. 1510 is a great score, and I’m not sure a score any higher than that would make much of a dent in your scholarship chances. The SAT or ACT score tends to work as a cutoff. Once you are a finalist for the full-tuition scholarship, personal factors become more important.
