Advice/Chances/Questions...

Boring numbers…
GPA: 3.96 / 4.3

ACT: 34
SAT: took it, no scores yet

SAT II
Math II: 800
US History: 800
Physics: 780
Spanish: 760

Questions
Along with each of the other 20,000 applicants, i LOVE Stanford… what I’m really curious about is how much these two things will help:
• Double legacy (both parents)
• Amigos de las Americas volunteer for 2 months last summer (read more at amigoslink.org, basically an immersive international service program, very well-respected)

Other Extracurriculars
• Eagle Scout
• 4 years competitive public speaking, debate captain
• LDS Seminary graduate (religious school for one hour before school every day), elected president 3 years
• 12 years violin, 4 years of local youth orchestra
• Went to Guatemala twice as a medical technician to work in a hospital, 4 weeks cumulative

• Chances (OK maybe these aren’t realistic)?
• Advice (this is what I’m really looking for)?
• Other schools I should look into? (I’ve already got a few ideas)

 Thanks...

I took a gap year and am preparing for college application too. I honestly can’t assess your chance (essays and recs are unmentioned) and give any advice (because I am currently applying myself). I can tell only my opinion when reading: the numbers are impressive, but the activities are not very focused. The list is versatile; it says you are a public speaker, violinist and medical technician at the same time. They are not, well, really related to each other. That’s what I feel.

About schools, I think your score makes it no problem at all to apply any school you want.

And have you begun drafting the essays and asking for rec? These are important too.

Good luck with Stanford.
