Advice for a college freshmen?

Hey yall. I’m an incoming University of Michigan LSA Honors freshmen and I wanted to seek some advice.

Having acquired about 50 credit hours in high school, I’m on track to graduate in three years with at least two degrees. As of now, my plan is to finish up these three years and then apply to masters in finance program.

My question is, which concentrations should I major in to maximize my chances of getting into a top tier mfin program and eventually land a position as an IB?

I’m thinking something like economics/psychology or economics/political science, but if I do econ/political science, I feel like I might as well pursue a third degree in philosophy or history because of the overlap (and to maximize my college tuition).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Pursuing a third major isn’t necessarily “maximizing” your tuition. The value of your degree isn’t evaluated by the number of majors you have.

First of all, wait until you get to college and meet with an advisor. You may have acquired 50 credit hours, but that doesn’t automatically translate into 50 fewer hours you have to take in college. You also have to satisfy distributional and general ed requirements, and some of the hours you earned may not count for that.

The class profiles from top finance programs seem to indicate that students major in all kinds of things. MIT Sloan’s program, for example, has almost equal numbers of students from math and science, business/commerce, and humanities and social sciences fields. Economics is probably a pretty common major.

Whatever you do major in, you should probably take some classes that’ll increase your mathematical/quantitative facility.
