Hello again. I’m not sure if this is the way to proceed, but I would like to discuss the results of my son’s (the would-be wrestler) May SATS. They are not good: 540 CR/510 Math/570 Writing. I am going to sign him up for the College Board online prep class and he will take the test again. But I am very worried about his prospects. Will he have a chance at any D3 schools discussed, such as Ursinus or Roger Williams? I have looked at the admission profiles, and with those scores, he seems to be below the 50 percent range.

Hi MassMom2:

I am an alumnus of SUNY Oswego. I would recommend that you avoid it. It is very isolated, winter is pure misery even for the Northeast, the academics are average at best, and its reputation is worthless.
Binghamton has a very good wrestling program, is more diverse and challenging academically, and I believe your son can get in, even without the wrestling.

Best of luck!

You might consider Franklin and Marshall. In particular, heavyweights are prized additions at any DIII program.

Years ago when I was there F&M regularly scheduled top schools and John Peterson practiced on campus with an Athletes in Action team. The school has a long tradition of strong teams. I cannot say how it is today but you might want check.

Good luck.
