My sister’s ex-husband was disabled as a young man. He was hit by a car and has been receiving various forms of disability and social security for all of his adult life, while barely holding down a job. I am not going to try to turn this into a sympathy thread or a bashing of someone trying to milk the system.
He has been his own worst enemy when it comes to overcoming his obstacles ( he is not wheelchair bound, but has some minor mobility issues and arthritis )
My sister had always been the main source of income when they were married. They have a daughter who is about to graduate college, and there is an agreement once she is done with school that the house they shared shall be sold with the profit to be split between the two…pretty standard I think.
He told her that Social Security has cut his benefits and told him he owes a substantial amount of money to them as well ( not sure what for because he has never earned much at all and also wasn’t able work any demanding jobs )

I don’t want my sister to get sucked into his financial mess , but the guy clearly needs some reputable legal advice … I wouldn’t say he has abused the system , but he isn’t savvy enough to find the help he needs…apparently he takes home $150 a week with some part time job he currently works
Any advice ?
