Advice for future Hoyas aka c/o 2009 =)

Thanks to everybody who gave me advice on my decision between Brown and Georgetown. I decided to be a Hoya!! I’m extreeeemely excited but nervous and it would be great for all of us future Hoyas if current students could give us advice on ANYthing–what classes to take, what profs to avoid/take, what to do on campus, what to bring, what places to visit, etc. etc. ANYthing would be EXTREMELY helpful. Thank youuu!

Congrats on making the right decision, godivalove! I know you won’t regret it.

And I will second the comments made by godiva- any advice at all would be greatly appreicated!

ETA: I just thought of a question- what kind of laptop is the best for Georgetown: a PC or a Mac? If a PC, what kind?

The type of laptop doesn’t matter…but you should definitely be looking for something that has wireless and a long battery life. That will help you out a lot.
A few pieces of advice:
Anybody taking any type of econ class should make every effort possible to talk to former students of the available professors! It’ll help you out tons!!
Don’t skip out on SAC Fair! You MUST GO!
For those of you not from the north, buy a nice big coat at home. It’ll be cheaper and you’re gonna need it.
Once you get your net id sign up on studentuniverse.com, especially those of you from smaller parts of the country. It was the only way I could afford to visit home!

GET A MAC! THEY ARE AWESOME AND SO MUCH MORE RELIABLE! Unless ur in MSB. Enygma gave some great advice, especially about econ, they are all soooooooo different! Specific questions would be greatly appreciated.

Get noise cancelling head phones to drown out soem of the dorm/library noise while you study. Oh! Get a Brita, your H2O tastes sooooo much better. Order many of your books online, barnes and noble si good, the bookstore is a little overpriced

Definitely get a Mac…I got one this year for my birthday/Christmas/graduation present and absolutely love it!

Plus, my PC is currently possessed by some nasty spyware, whereas with a Mac my computer is perfectly fine.

Never take a math class with Professor Fan, best advice I could give anybody

The water has lead and whatnot in it, so a Brita filter is a must. Use www.ratemyprofessor.com for info on some of the profs. The people I know who have Macs like them but once in awhile you will run into class-required software that isn’t compatible with them, so watch out for that. Don’t get the carte blanch meal plan, the 24 -a-week is way more than enough for anyone.

Which cell phone network has the best service over there? Any one considerably better than the others?

I have a desktop I’ll be using with Windows but I got an iBook as my laptop. I’m in the MSB, am I screwed?

All the Georgetown literature that I have says that MSB students should have a PC (should, not must, but still there’s probably a good reason for it).
