Advice for visiting Turks and Caicos in September?

We are heading there next Saturday.
Any suggestions for what we should do, or not do? We are staying at the Alexandra resort. At this point we are not renting a car, but will if it seems like we should (we like to walk, and it seems like there’s not that much to do that we’d need a car for).
Thanks in advance.

We went there quite a few years ago. Grace Bay is lovely. We didn’t have a car for most of the time we were there – we rented one for the last couple days, though. When we were there, it was very quiet with not much to do or see other than the beach.

We rented bikes, and that was wonderful. We biked to a conch farm, and then to a more isolated beach close to that. We also went snorkeling.

When we had the car, we drove to another secluded beach that I learned about on Trip Advisor. I think it’s called Taylor Bay.

Thanks for the info. Our resort has loaner bikes, and we are taking our helmets. We figure we may rent a car for a couple of days, but don’t need one for the entire week.

Do you like dogs? If so, there is a rescue group for the islands’ dogs called Potcake Place. They’re located in the main Grace Bay area, Saltmills Plaza. If you come by at 10am you can take out a puppy for the morning to socialize them and play with them on the beach. They’ll give you whatever supplies are needed.

Who can resist puppies. Thanks for sharing.

Google Turks and Caicos Kiteboarding. There is an access point on Long Bay and it is so fun to pack a lunch and sit and watch the kite boarders. There is a stunning beach with very calm waters to walk along and maybe even tour one of the condo models next to the kiteboarding area.

We were with friends who had a boat, but if there was a tour boat ride along the calm side, I would certainly take it and enjoy riding along a coastline filled with stunning homes.

There’s a fun local gathering in the park one evening per week, I believe it’s on Wednesday. Small food booths, crafts, music, a good mix of locals and tourists. Starts early evening, goes til well after dark. Lots of fun.

Plenty of good restaurants. I’ll try to look through my records and let you know our favorites.

H and I went there on our honeymoon, back in the day. Please go snorkeling! Turks and Caicos are considered one of the top 3 dive sites in the world, after the Australian great barrier reef and Belize. The water is quite clear. We went out in a small boat with some scuba divers and just snorkeled in the water while they swam. The water was 60 feet deep and we could see things on the bottom. We also saw a barracuda, sea turtle, and an octopus.

That was on Provo. We also went to Grand Turk and snorkeled at a beach on the tip of the island called Governor’s Beach. The reef comes into 3-4 feet of water there. There were jellyfish, so we went around the point and swam with no problem. Less fish, but still lots of fish but no jellyfish. It was a wonderful beach and there was no one else there. We had rented a motorbike that day which was fun.

Our place is on Grace Bay, and we are attempting to survive without a car. We biked to get groceries this morning. They have bags on the bikes, so the only problem was trying to stop with pedal brakes.
Our restaurant list so far is Manga Bistro, Magnolias, Mango Reef, Sabonne, and possibly Hemmingways. Any other suggestions? There’s an ice cream and dessert place called Melt that sounds wonderful, but they are closed because it’s low season.

We enjoyed Coyaba and Bay Bistro. Before or after dinner drinks are nice at the Deck at Seven Stars Resort and the Infinity Bar at the Grace Bay Club. We wanted to go to Coco Bistro but couldn’t get reservations. Grace Bay is beautiful, Taylor Bay is spectacular.

If you change your mind about the car, Grace Bay Car Rentals are reasonable and I believe they will deliver to your resort. Da Conch Shack is a cute little dive that is reminiscent of a Corona commercial. We would go and get Conch Salads to go and take them to have as our lunch at Taylor Bay. Las Brisas is a nice restaurant on the water if you make it over to Chalk Sound. You can also rent kayaks right there. The views of the water are gorgeous. Enjoy your trip. Our trip to T & C was one of the most relaxing vacations H and I have ever taken.

@my-3-sons, we had dinner at Coco Bistro tonight. I called it mango bistro, but it was Coco Bistro. We made reservations before we got here, because after tomorrow they close for 3 weeks. We had a wonderful dinner. Walked about 2 miles to get there and 2 miles back, so we worked off some of the calories. lobster is in season, and the house cat (Coco) and I enjoyed it.
Thanks for the car rental tip. A guy who owns here also suggested that company. We may get a car the last couple of days.

Glad to hear you enjoyed dinner! It is definitely on the list for our next visit there.
