Advice for Waitlisted

Hi, I have been waitlisted to Columbia (for biomedical engineering) for the class of 2015. On Columbia’s website, it reads that I can submit a brief letter if I am still interested in Columbia. What should I include in this letter to help my chances?
Thanks

Im not a student at Columbia but definately talk about what you will contribute to the school and why you think you deserve to go there.

I was also waitlisted at Columbia University for the Class of 2015. I’m hoping to study for a degree in art history. Does anyone know if they factor in your major when deciding who to accept from the waitlist? I’ve heard some schools choose students with really ambiguous majors over others in more competitive fields (i.e. someone pursuing a degree in forestry may be accepted over someone pursuing a degree in political science because of the lesser competition in forestry). Is this true? Also, is art history one of the more popular majors at Columbia?

Thanks.

Honestly, not even sure what to do. This is obviously my number one choice, and part of me thought I might be better off just re-applying next year. But this article ([College Waitlists: How to Get in When You?re Waitlisted - The Daily Beast](The Daily Beast: The Latest in Politics, Media & Entertainment News)) got me thinking… apparently there are ways to “nudge yourself” into acceptance. IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?

Ok, so I submitted my additional document to Columbia explaining why I still want to be considered for the Class of 2015…but I wrote them a poem. I’m hoping it serves to show the creativity I hope to pursue at the University. Any thoughts?
