Advice: From High School to Medical School

Hello,

I am looking for some advice. I am going to Phillips Exeter Academy (class of 2015), quite a selective boarding school, and my goal is to get into a good medical school, if possible, something of the caliber of John’s Hopkins University. I would like get some advice on the best path to get there. For now, we can leave tuition and $ out of the picture.

Then if you have specific questions, ask.

It’s way, way, way too early to be talking about which medical school you want to attend. No one knows if you’ll be competitive for it (or any med school) when it comes time to apply.

Also ALL US medical schools teach the same basic curriculum. It’s standardized because all med students have to pass the same, identical USMLE at the end of second year. (And 2 more USMLEs at the end of 3rd year.)

The best thing you can do as high school student: do well in all your coursework. Take AP science and math classes to strengthen your knowledge base so you can do well in college. Develop good people skills. Develop hobbies and interests OTHER than science/math.
