Advice Needed

Ok, how do I get their attention? For those of you who have not been reading my threads, my son applied in mid October. His last piece of the application, his teacher rec. was marked received on November 3rd. He used live help twice in November to ask if he was considered ER, because he knew that his teacher rec was not received by October 31. He was told yes. On December 14th, he called and repeated the question. They said yes, but email your counselor to make sure. They gave him his counselors’ email address. He got a response immediately, but the counselor just pasted the paragraph from the website that said if it is marked received by the 10th you are ER. He didn’t hear anything on the 21st. He called and was told no way you were ER; we didn’t get you teacher rec till the 1st. He used live help again in January at the 12-week mark. They said his application was ready for review. His GC called and was told his application was ready for review. He decided to ask if it would help if he sent in his mid-year report. He tried live help twice, he recognized the name of the counselor on live help, and was “disconnected. “ He emailed the question about the mid-year report to his counselor 10 days ago, no response. For my part, I don’t want to even pay the $16 to send the CSS. Calling or emailing his guidance couselor doesn’t seem to be working.

toshima: I can’t believe you still haven’t heard…Anyway, it might be time for someone in authority at your school to call (head of guidance)…Not sure where you live, or if your school has a relationship with UMich, but IMO this is par for the course this year…(I wouldn’t be shocked if you were from NJ or PA based on other threads and UMich results this year…)…Good Luck, but I think your son fell through the cracks…

Added: Not to make you feel any better, but it looks like UMD-College Park is having similar bizarre results this year, based on their threads and many others I have spoken to…Very high stats (similar to your son’s) outright rejected OOS…Weird year…

It’s not suprising though. With so many applicants in such a little time span (I heard they received around 70% of their applications for early) they most likely did not get to all of them. Don’t worry though, handing it in early action does NOT change your admissions decision, so if you’re waiting right now, you might as well wait. As for your css, I believe the deadline is coming up… so if you’re son is really considering Michigan, you might as well send it through.
