I know this doesn’t really have anything to do with college but I just needed some opinions and advice about something. My and my best guy friend got each other christmas gifts and he just gave me mine last weekend. When I opened it, it had something that I already have. He told me a couple months ago I said I wanted another one but in a different style but I feel like I may have said it as a joke or I just wasn’t thinking about it. I don’t want him to waste his money on something I won’t use and I told him that I really appreciated the thought but to return it and get his money back because I knew it was expensive. He told me he wouldn’t take it back but I don’t just want to not use it. My mom suggested asking him to exchange it for something else but I feel like it’s kinda rude. Any opinions are welcome as to what I should do.
I agree with you that it is rude to ask him to return it for something else. I think that there is only one proper response to getting a gift - say thank you! Throughout your life, you will get lots of gifts that you don’t want or need or already have. You’ll figure out which ones to keep, and which ones to regift. But you must always be kind to the givers!
