Advice on my choice of essay topic?

<p>I’m looking at the common application essay choices, and considering choosing option 1 which is:
“Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.”</p>

<p>I’m considering writing about when I skipped from 5th to 6th grade midway through the year but worried that this might have been too long ago to be a valid essay subject. I would discuss the impact on me portion of it with the decision I made to skip a grade, but I’m not sure if this would be a good thing to write about on a colelge essay.
Advice?</p>

<p>Typically, the decision to skip grades at that age (10-years-old) is largely made by the parents.</p>

<p>I’d recommend taking a look at other essay topics.</p>

<p>Well in this particular case it was left up to me, and in fact my parents tried to dissuade me from skipping a grade. But I am worried it would come across as a parental decision based on the age it occured at.</p>
