I’ve just put the finishing touches on this personal statement. Anyone have any feedback? Am I answering the question adequately?
Prompt: If you could have any superhero power what would it be and why? (Max 250 words)
Statement:
As a child, I was always fascinated by the superheroes I saw in comic books or TV shows. I dreamed of someday having my own superhuman abilities that I could use to fight crime and save the world. Now, I realize that a superpower isn’t just an ability received after being struck by lightning or bitten by a radioactive spider; it’s a gift that can be used to help others. Today, my desired superpower is within my reach, and it’s the ability to communicate with computers.
I’ve been around computers all my life and I have always loved working with them. Ever since I got my first laptop at the age of eight, I knew I wanted to work with technology one day, which is why I’m now pursuing a degree in Computer Science. Becoming a programmer will allow me to communicate with computers and fulfill my childhood dream of being a superhero. Now, you may be thinking that this isn’t much of a superpower, but by working in the field of software development or cyber security, I can make a significant impact on society by defending the United States against dangerous cyber-attacks or by working to program a safe, self-driving car that will never crash.
With technology advancing at such a rapid pace, its possible applications are growing exponentially. I only hope to one day become a part of this growth and to be known for working on a project that makes the world a safer and better place.
