Advice on transferring from community colleges

I hope this finds you well,
I’m a 26 year old female from Chicago.

I did well in high school and the single semester I took at college, but circumstances kept me from continuing.

I want to persue a career in Speech-Language Pathology, but I want to take the most cost effective route there.
This profession requires an MS degree from a SLP program, entry into which requires completion of a number of courses only offered at select 4 year colleges/universities.
Being that I have little to no college credits built up, I’d like to limit my student debt as much as possible.
There are a number of community colleges in the city with accredited courses.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to take 2 years worth of courses (GE and then some) at a community college or accredited online school, and then transfer to a 4 year school to complete the last 2 years?

The tuition numbers are making me dizzy, I hope this post doesn’t do the same to you.

Thank you very much if you’re able to shine any light on this.

Yes, a significant number of Community College students attend with the intention of transferring after 2 years to finish their bachelor’s. The main thing you need to do is to seek good advisement so that the classes you take at the community college will be acceptable to the four-year school you choose to attend. You can increase the likelihood of transferability by having a good idea of what four-year school you want to attend, and then work with that school and the community college’s advisement office to choose the correct courses. Many four-year schools also have what are called articulation agreements with community colleges, which means if you take a prescribed set of courses at the community college, they will be guaranteed to transfer to that four-year school.
