Advice to UF Freshman (from upperclassmen)

<p>I was perusing the UF Student’s live journal page and came upon this today.</p>

<p>It has some very good insider information for Freshman. I was wondering if any CC members from UF have anything to add to these lists of advice?</p>

<ol>
<li>Guys should wait until their sophmore year to pledge a frat. Girls can join anytime.</li>
<li>The “Swamp Bar & Grill” is the place to be on Monday night.</li>
<li>There is a secret computer lab located in the Reitz Union.</li>
<li>Students are actually allowed to exercise in the stadium.</li>
<li>Greek Life is very influential in student government, if you want to participate then you are basically required to join.</li>
<li>The Alligator newspaper is anti-administration, anti-greek, and is very liberal. The Gainesville Sun is pro-UF.</li>
<li>Watch out for the solicitors at Turlington.</li>
<li>Don’t eat the Hari Chrisna food in the Plaza of the Americas.</li>
<li>Be prepared for every Seminole you meet to explain how they turned down UF to go to FSU.</li>
<li>Check out the Career Resource Center (in the Union) to get a great internships.</li>
<li>Look into getting a scooter to drive around campus.</li>

<p>Yes, the FSU students try to express some empathy to those less fortunate.</p>

<h1>3 is not exactly a secret anymore, it’s always packed - better to try the CIRCA labs</h1>

<p>If you’re a biker: learn how to use hand signals, you CAN get a speeding ticket if going over 20mph, and don’t wear headphones- UF police just love to give out tickets!!!</p>

<p>To give you something else to do after you’ve hit the same bars and clubs over and over again (or that’s not your thing):
Student tickets to performing arts are $10 and the shows are really great too.

<p>Gator nights has free movies (current ones) that you can see on friday and saturday nights in the Reitz Union. They’re always something to do before parties.

<p>RUB shows movies on the week. It’s separate from gator nights (no free popcorn and cokes). Normally these are more artsy.

<p>UF has great athletics! Check out a game or two! Even if you weren’t able to get season tickets to football, check out the tailgating and other things going on! There’s lots of school pride!</p>
