I am applying ED2 and on my app I noted an interest in the combined BA/MA program. Mulling it over, I realize I’d rather focus my time into the different clubs GWU has to offer as well as attempting to score an internship. From what I’ve read, indicating the interest on the app isn’t a large commitment since you don’t technically apply for the program until sophomore year.
My question is, since I’m sending an email with a few changes anyway, if it would make sense for me to retract my interest and explain why. I’m thinking it might show serious thought and dedication to the campus or maybe even a sense of maturity, but on the other hand I don’t want to sound whiny or shoot myself in the foot by appearing to doubt myself.

I say don’t. In my opinion, wanting to spend more time in clubs is not a convincing reason. (Not as good as the hype). Education always comes first. Plus as you stated, you don’t have to apply until Sophomore year so you might change your mind.
