I read that it is good to get in touch with my advisor prior to orientation. How do I know who my advisor is?/ When will I be told?

Also, is it possible to sign up for classes before orientation?

Thank you!

Another question, very unrelated.
I am almost certain about NU, however, I am considering Syracuse as well. It is ranked higher and I would be paying $17,000 less a year. Syracuse is sort of in the middle of nowhere and I love Northeastern so much more. Is it worth it to go to NU?

You cannot sign up for classes before orientation. I am not sure where you read about getting in touch prior. You may not know who your advisor is before orientation. If you want to find out you can likely call your department and ask.

Yes you can, actually, depending on the advisor. About two weeks before orientation they send you information to fill out a sort of pre-orientation thing. At the end it gives you information about your advisor. I seem to recall it being so that you have an idea of what classes you might want to take or something… Anyway, many times advisors will want to work with you to sign you up for classes before orientation starts so that it is less hectic for them on the day of orientation. I signed up several weeks before my orientation in fact. However I imagine there are also plenty of advisors that don’t feel like it and will tell you no. When you find out your advisor, I’d encourage you to try to talk about some classes, since everything fills up really fast.
