I am a junior in high school with a gpa somewhere around a 6.5/7 (Don’t know the conversion to 4.0). I am in the top 12% of my class, and that might go back to top 10% after this year. I will have taken 8 AP classes by graduation. My SAT scores were:
CR: 730
Math: 670 (going to retake, will definitely improve)
Writing: 720
My Extra-Currics are:
Band (Drumline)
Water Polo
Physics club (officer)
Civil Rights club
German club
I haven’t yet taken my SAT 2’s. Also, I plan to get about 50 hours of community service this summer. I have had 3 jobs to date, each one very different.

Bump Bump Bump

Good chances, but I really don’t know how to convert your gpa,

make sure you bring up that SAT math. Other than that it looks good the SAT always goes up as you retake so that shouldn’t be a problem as you started pretty well.

I applied for Aerospace Engineering too, except this year.

Good Luck

As far as your GPA of 6.5/7 goes, if you scale everything to 4, then you will have a 3.7 GPA.

You look pretty “standard” there, nothing really that sets you apart from the pack. To improve your chances, definitely get your SAT score up and see if you can pull up that GPA as well. And definitely go for the National Merit Scholar competition this year, USC really likes to get those and plus you get automatic half tuition if you get the award.

On the engineering website there were a few bits of information about admissions. For the 2009 freshmen class at Viterbi over 1/3 are female. In the class were 46 National Merit Scholars. Admit rate was 12.5%. In the past three years the SAT score of incoming engineering students has risen 9 points per year.

One of the most interesting points was retention of freshmen engineers at 92%. Many colleges have large numbers of engineering students change majors after the freshmen year.

Yeah i qualified for the national merit scholarship, wont know if I was a finalist till next year
