That link says that “roughly 30% of mechanical engineering majors indicated in a 2024 department survey that they would major in aerospace engineering if they could.”

But what percentage of mechanical engineers work in aerospace versus other engineering jobs?

Bless your heart. But the numbers look good. is aerospace engineering worth it - Search

Aerospace companies hire mechanical engineers and physicists and petroleum engineers and electrical engineers and industrial engineers and psychologists and math majors and materials scientists and on and on and on. And yes, aerospace engineers.

When I recruited in aerospace one of the hardest functions to hire for was for the various safety functions. We needed people who understood sleep and sleep deprivation (so not aerospace engineers) and team dynamics (many aviation disasters were exacerbated by a junior team member not wanting to contradict a senior leader) and semiotics (how to communicate non-verbally- what is a red button vs a blue lever across many cultures and languages?) and human factor response times and physiology, etc.

Just throwing that out there in case folks believe that there is only ONE path to a career in the aerospace/aviation industry.
