I had a total of 20/28 credits transfer from my 4 year to CCC. Those transferred to CCC for 24 credits and I’ve planned 52 credits before I apply in Fall 2026. The courses I have planned all fulfill the transfer requirements, except programming (4 credits) didn’t transfer to CCC. I’m planning to transfer that directly to UCI. I also have 3 AP exams.
The biggest thing that I’m confused about is where I stand credit wise. I know there’s a 70 max for lower division and 80 max for TAG. I’m just unsure how many credits I have that will count towards those limits.
If you complete at least 30 semester/45 quarter units by Spring 2025 prior to matriculation, you get CCC priority. You can also TAG if you meet the GPA and minimum course requirements based on the TAG matrix by Fall 2025.
Earn a minimum GPA of 3.4 in all UC transferable coursework
All transfer major course prerequisites completed must meet the minimum letter grades and cumulative GPA for your chosen major.
Complete one UC transferable math (UC-M) course with a grade of C or better
Complete one UC transferable English composition (UC-E) course with a grade of C or better

UC doesn’t care what credit your CCC gives for the classes you took at your 4-year. UC will require a transcript from that school and will independently decide what transfers. They don’t evaluate in advance but if you were taking academic classes (eg. not a “Welcome to the big U” class) you’ll likely get UC credit. For your CCC you can look at ASSIST to see what credit you will receive.
UC will total up the units from the previous paragraph and also the credit given for your AP exams. Assuming both the following are true
- your 4-year was not a UC campus
- all the classes you took at the 4-year were lower division
then if the number is greater than 70 semester units they cap the units you get when you enter UC at 70. The 80 unit limit does not come into play, it only applies if one or both of the conditions are not true. You will get subject credit for everything you took so that can be used to satisfy either your major or breadth requirements.
